LAC: When did you decide to start making your health a priority (what or whom inspired this decision) and what were your goals?

Kelsey: I had just graduated college and was about 35 pounds heavier than I had ever been. I felt uncomfortable in my own skin and hated what I saw when I looked in the mirror. I had zero confidence. My goals were to be proud of myself and comfortable with my body again. I realized this was something I  had complete control over and decided to change.

LAC: How did you get started and what did you do to improve your health?

Kelsey: I started by eating healthier and cutting back on the constant drinking and the partying and eating junk food. I joined a gym and began working out once or twice a week. At first my main focus was diet, I didn’t do a ton of exercising. It was a slow start but I started losing weight and people started noticing.

LAC: How did you stay motivated and what was the biggest challenge?

Kelsey: The more weight I lost and the more compliments I got, the more it motivated me to continue. I began meal prepping and researching nutrition. I became infatuated with learning about health and fitness and trying new things. There were times when I lost motivation and stopped eating right. There were times I went days, weeks, or months without eating right or working out. Sometimes life just gets too busy or you just get burnt out and need a break. But I always got back to it and picked up where I left off.

LAC: What positive changes did you see in your life and what did you learn throughout this process?

Kelsey: Obviously I lost weight (about 20 pounds) and I look better than ever. But I also feel better. Mentally, emotionally, psychologically… I am more confident. I am happier. I am proud of myself and my hard work. I have completely changed my lifestyle. Eating healthy and working out has become my favorite hobby. I want to take care of my body inside and out. I went from eating junk, drinking, and smoke cigarettes to meal prepping, working out, and taking supplements.

LAC: Final Thoughts? Is there anything else you would like share about your story?

Kelsey: I was never truly obese or overweight, but I was headed down a bad path and I knew it. Some people think I’m crazy and think I looked fine the way I was. They say I wasn’t that “fat” or that I didn’t need to lose weight. I knew that I wasn’t healthy and I knew I needed to make a change, so I did. I did it for myself. I put myself out of my comfort zone and challenged myself to do things I never thought I would do. I used to go to Planet Fitness and I never thought I would join a gym like LAC and sometimes I still get intimidated, but I think making the switch was the best thing I’ve ever done. I am a work in progress and LAC helps motivate me to get there.
