The Louisville Athletic Club Interviews Brittany Taylor for the My Journey Story Series
LAC: When did you decide to start making your health a priority (what or whom inspired this decision) and what were your goals?
Brittany: I have always been active, even as a kid, but it wasn’t until I started working at Ideal Fitness (Now LAC New Albany) in June of 2007 that I really discovered my passion for weight lifting. I was actually inspired by a celebrity television show on Bravo! Called Workout. It was about a group of personal trainers led by Jackie Warner whom I admire and respect very much!
LAC: How did you get started and what did you do to improve your health?
Brittany: I applied for a job at Ideal Fitness/ LAC New Albany and have been working here since I was 18 years old. I started making lifting weights a priority and gave up soft drinks and fast food.
LAC: How did you stay motivated and what was the biggest challenge?
Brittany: I did constant research for new routines and exercises. To this day, I’ve never done the same lifting routine twice! My friends, family and clients all hold me accountable whether they realize it or not! My clients inspire me every day! I lift six days a week, play racquetball for fun, and am practicing for a flag football league that begins next summer. Cardio is always my challenge! I incorporate sports like football, racquetball, etc. to make cardio more fun. I also do HIIT cardio so I’m not on the treadmill for hours. Intensity over duration!!
LAC: What positive changes did you see in your life and what did you learn throughout this process?
Brittany: I became more confident as I noticed an increase in strength and muscle, and I became much more outgoing! I loved seeing myself put up more and more weight on the bench press. My self-esteem shot through the roof! I have learned that everyone has their own fitness journey. We cannot compare ourselves to others. We have to want this lifestyle for ourselves.
LAC: Final Thoughts? Is there anything else you would like share about your story?
Brittany: My favorite part of health and fitness is how it brings everyone together. We inspire each other every day without even knowing it. Fitness creates a bond across the board and gives us all common ground. We continue to learn from each other and motivate our fellow lifters, runners, cross-fitters, etc. It truly restores my faith in humanity.
